I have been in the woodworking and building trades for over 30 years now. 10+ years CAD/CAM and CNC Programming/Operation. Still new to the artistic side of CNC but getting better every day!
Many pieces are made from 3D models purchased online. I also make many of my own models with AutoCAD software. And many of my models are a combination of both. I then use these digital models to write the code for my CNC (Computerized Numerical Control ) router. The model on the right (above if viewing on a handheld device) was a full 3D model of a basset hound-head, body, tail, everything. I took what I needed and scaled it so that the nose didn't stick out 6 inches. Then I superimposed it into a frame and background I created in AutoCAD.
I spend up to a week gluing and planing my panels. When you remove this much stock from one side of the panel, it will warp. It is unavoidable but there are steps I can take to get a better product. I try to keep all pieces an inch thick to reduce warpage but sometimes I have to go thinner due to thin stock or defects in the wood. My guarantee is that I will always do my best. From time to time you may find an open glue joint or a crack. Sometimes I leave them in or even instigate them on purpose to add character. I guarantee that all cracks and glue joints WILL NOT GET ANY WORSE AFTER THE PURCHASE DATE.
